Pentax K-r with some Leica goodness [bandwidth] - Z - 03-30-2012

So as noted in Wig's K-5 thread a page or so back, I've got some photos from the Co. Springs Zoo. Most shot with the 180/2.8 Elmarit, and a few with the SMC-M 50/1.7.

I've always wanted to brush a bear. THAT BABY! SO CUTE! I love the warthog (warty goodness). Great pix man.

Very nice Z. Which shots were shot with which lens?

The animals and the first picture of Zelda were all with the 180. The last few were with the 50. I've had a hard time making good use of the Elmarit 28mm lens - I don't know if it is how it focuses, a lack of a split screen, or what, but I find it challenging.

This lens? http://www.leitax.com/conversion/leica/APO-Elmarit_180-2.8/index.html

It's clearly a superior lens! I believe you can get a split screen for your K-r. Do you get focus confirmation beep & indicator in the VF?

I wish it were that lens (and I've got the APO 1.4x teleconverter to go with it), but no, the 2nd version of the non-APO 180mm:

Haven't decided on the split screen, or if I just wait for the inevitable upgrade to your cast-off K-5 when the next model is announced... Wink

A split screen can be a mixed bag when focusing manually. They're great if you have a short lens, and you have good lighting conditions. When you have low light conditions, and especially with long lenses, the small center portion with the split screen goes dark, so you have to focus with the outer micro prism. If you shoot under these types of conditions a lot, you might be better off with just a micro prism screen.
