Favorite Online Savings? - DharmaDog - 06-16-2006 I've had an ING Direct savings account for a little while and am generally pleased with it, but am wondering if there are other similar offerings that some of you prefer and why. ING is offering 4.25% right now, while HSBC Direct and Immigrant Direct have 4.65% and they generally are higher than ING. Am I gaining anything by staying with ING? Does HSBC's or Immigrant's service stink? Re: Favorite Online Savings? - MGS_forgot_password - 06-16-2006 I have accounts with both ING and HSBC. In my opinion, they both offer about the same amount of service. I haven't had an problems with either. Re: Favorite Online Savings? - AlphaDog - 06-16-2006 I have accounts with both ING and Emigrant Direct. I haven't had problems with either, although I keep the bulk of my savings in Emigrant Direct because of that higher interest rate. I opened the ING account because they offer good rates on CDs. I'm not familiar with HSBC. I guess I need to look it up, huh? Edit: I just checked HSBC. My primary complaint is that their site is extremely slow to load! Their savings account rate is the same as ED (as you noted), but their CD rates are pretty crummy in comparison with what's available through ING. Re: Favorite Online Savings? - Smilin' Jack - 06-16-2006 We've used ING for some time with no problems, but lately are using GMAC Bank Re: Favorite Online Savings? - AlphaDog - 06-16-2006 GMAC looks like it's worth checking out for those CD rates alone. Thanks! So, what kind of "service" do people get? I just put my money in and take it back out. What have I been missing?! Re: Favorite Online Savings? - trisho. - 06-16-2006 I also have ING and HSBC online savings accounts. I don't really use the ING anymore, mostly the HSBC. I use my HSBC checking and online savings for all my business transactions. My other personal accounts are with Citibank and they just finally started doing the online savings thing last month. Their rate is 4.75%. Here's the info: https://web.da-us.citibank.com/cgi-bin/citifi/portal/ps/detail.do?M_M=S&BS_Id=eSavings. I funded my ING last year with the Citibank account. Since Citi started this online savings program, I don't really have to do that and it will help to consolidate it all. Before signing up though, I have to figure out if Citibank will let you open multiple lines/accounts like ING does. These function as line items in a way. I currently have: House Fund; Taxes; General Savings; and E-fund in my ING account. And yes, HSBC's site is extremely slow. FYI: HSBC is owned by the Chinese government if that concerns you at all. It used to be Hong Kong's bank, which is why it has all those British connections. When Hong Kong was returned to China, the bank went with it. Any time I deposit a check in that account it takes forever to go through. That's the Chinese govt. trying really hard to squeeze out the interest on it. Think about several American billion dollars earning interest for the Chinese government. It's their way of earning back how much Wal-Mart has cost their economy. Re: Favorite Online Savings? - MGS_forgot_password - 06-16-2006 HSBC is based in the UK. Re: Favorite Online Savings? - spacescape - 06-16-2006 Where is ING based out of? Re: Favorite Online Savings? - trisho. - 06-16-2006 [quote MGS_forgot_password]HSBC is based in the UK. That's one of its bases, but it was owned by the Hong Kong government, now China. HSBC stands for Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation. Re: Favorite Online Savings? - DharmaDog - 06-16-2006 ING is Dutch. |
