Fridge repair: disconnecting water line - Mike Johnson - 04-27-2012
The nozzle on the water dispenser on my fridge broke, and of course I can't just replace the nozzle, I have to replace the hose assembly. The dispenser hose is coupled to the hose leading from the filter with a one touch type connector, sorta like this:
Is there a trick to disconnecting this kind of fitting? I want to do this properly because there's almost no slack in the tubing. If I damage the coupler, have to cut it off the hose, I'd probably have to install another inch or two of hose, meaning a second coupler, and suddenly the chance of leak has approximately doubled. I'd much, much rather disconnect the hose and reuse the existing coupler if possible.
Anybody have some experience with this type of fitting?

I think you need one of these Push-Fittings Disconnect Clips. It slips over the plastic flange so you can push it back and release the fitting. I've also improvised with a loose pair of channel locks on 3/4" sharkbite fittings.

Just push the orange ring with your fingers it is not very strong. You have take them loose all the time delivering fridges.

Just pull, it'll come apart. Make sure the water is turned off first. Then push it back together when you are done.
