Why does Google always blow their roll out announcements? - davester - 06-07-2012 What a bunch of dweebs! They had their eagerly anticipated rollout of their pre-hyped google maps product today, and it sounds like it is basically the same thing as what Apple's acquisition C3 technologies was doing. Not only that, but MacRumors suggests that they showed it off using an iPad, not an Android tablet. WTF?! http://www.macrumors.com/2012/06/06/google-announces-new-3d-features-for-google-earth-is-committed-to-offering-google-maps-on-all-platforms/ They do this shit all the time. Remember the awful Google TV announcement? Who here has a google TV in their living room? Aren't these guys smart enough to realize that they need to copy some of Apple's marketing methods if they're going to have more successful product launches? After all, one of their founders was on the Apple board for a while and had full access to Steve and knowledge of the way Apple did things. Re: Why does Google always blow their roll out announcements? - vision63 - 06-07-2012 I don't understand why this would incense you so. Unless you work there. I think their focus is to apply the Android "Maps" experience as fully featured as it is on Android devices on IOS. A good thing. I think Google is pretty successful. They ain't hurtin'. Re: Why does Google always blow their roll out announcements? - ztirffritz - 06-07-2012 Their former CEO was on the Apple board, not one of the founders. Re: Why does Google always blow their roll out announcements? - WHiiP - 06-07-2012 Access to "Genius" doesn't make you one. Look at Balmer . . . Re: Why does Google always blow their roll out announcements? - silvarios - 06-07-2012 This is the oddest post I've seen in a while. It's like Dilger or Siegler hijacked davester's account. Re: Why does Google always blow their roll out announcements? - davester - 06-07-2012 OK, so I blew the Google founder thing, but why don't you guys get it. They hyped this rollout of a big advance in mapping and it turned out to be nothing, and to top that they showed it off on an iPad, when it's supposed to be a big Android feature. I'm not incensed, I'm just amazed that they could be so incompetent in the marketing arena. Re: Why does Google always blow their roll out announcements? - Seacrest - 06-07-2012 Oh, we get it all right, we just don't care. Re: Why does Google always blow their roll out announcements? - Drew - 06-07-2012 "Google scared witless" http://www.cultofmac.com/171876/why-todays-google-maps-event-proves-google-is-scared-witless-of-ios-6s-maps-opinion/ "Why’s this such a big deal? Google makes more money off of iOS than it does Android. Most of that is through search, but licensing Google Maps to Apple is extremely profitable for the company. And it gets worse! Google makes a lot of money off of iOS App Developers who license the Maps API for their apps, but with Apple coming up with its own solution, app developers will likely be able to use this for free. That’s a huge blow." |
