Car Rentals in Denver - markmedic - 06-07-2012

Anyone have any experience renting a car for a week in Denver ? I have tried price line and the budget/avis/hertz sites and they all seem expensive. I am looking at the airport locations currently but wanted to hear if anyone else had good luck with a company. I don't want the smallest car but an intermediate size.

MArk,

See the thread about car rentals in Kona, HI. Same answer. Smile

I rented a van at the Denver airport during March - $900 for four days. It must be the altitude.

Don't know what days your looking at, but Dollar has some decent deals right now.

Was in Denver two weeks ago and rented a car from Enterprise. The company paid for it, but I can say they were very nice to deal with and had a nice selection.

Check out www.betterbidding.com to see what people are paying for car rentals via popular sites like Hotwire and Priceline.

I almost always Priceline rental cars because I can get them for far cheaper than via other non-bidding travel sites.

It is always more expensive to rent a car at the airport. It is a way to soak the out-of-towners for additional fees and taxes. It is unfortunate that they forgot to put a rail line in when DIA was built. Have you checked out the prices when picking up a car at a downtown Denver location? The public transit system RTD runs buses from the airport to downtown. There are car rental places near the defunct Stapleton Airport location. The bus stops there as well.

Particle,

Maybe in Denver but not necessarily in other locations. It is absolutely not always more expensive to rent a car at the airport. I was quite surprised when renting a car at San Francisco Airport was dramatically less expensive than renting the same or similar vehicle at a local shop in Palo Alto. And, we're talking the same rental company! I checked other companies and it came out with similar results. All less expensive at the airport than locally.

Robert
You are correct. I should not have used such an absolute and said rather that renting at airports can bring additional fees and taxes. At least I listed an option for getting to Denver from the way out on the plains location that is DIA. :-)
