Replaced hard drive in 2007 white Intel iMac... - Joey Cupcakes - 06-16-2012

I've fixed/ upgraded many G5 iMacs, they were a piece of cake. Did a 2007 white Intel Core2Duo 20" for a friend yesterday. What a bear! Miles of EMF shielding, uncooperative bezel latches and a heat sensor glued to the hard drive... Success after hours (and running to Lowes to buy a long shank Torx T-10 driver 5 minutes before closing). Thank goodness for iFixit!

I don't remember needing a TORX-10, let alone a long one... maybe I cheated...

Needed to detach the display from the backplate. The drive is under the display. No way to cheat... would love to know how you did it, but I suspect we're talking about different models!

I must have used my standard torx-9 and got away with it. I've only done that model a couple of times...

I had to buy the Torx 10 and a magentizer for it so the screws wouldnt fall out.

near impossible on that mac

I lieu of a magnetized tool, one can always use chapstick :-)

Wish I'd thought of that. I used a small magnetic slotted driver to retrieve after the fact, and a tiny loop of pvc tape for re-attaching.

I also do not remove the display completely like it says---I simply open at an angle. Still have to disconnect the LCD inverter cables.

Did the same thing. The adhesive on the EMP shielding is quite strong.

Wouldn't yours be a 2006 by the way?
