"total disregard for victims" - Lemon Drop - 07-12-2012

The report on Penn State's leadership failures is more damning than I expected.

Wow.

Learn the lessons and move forward, not sure what more can be done (well beyond the lawsuits, firings, indictments maybe still to come...)

This should be on the other side.

And yet they had their second best money raising year ever. :S

Not sure why this is political ??

Other threads about Penn State were on the non-political side, as I recall.

Not a big deal, but that's why I put it on the non-political side.

That was before the convictions and the report, remains to be seen if this report will impact fundraising. I think most people expected Paterno to be exonerated, and quite the opposite happened.

I couldn't believe when I saw the donation total either. People are crazy.

Two things I don't like in addition to the sickening nature of the whole thing...

It bothers me that many of the Board that were in place at the time are skating free on this. They were supposedly the oversight for the school. Can't believe none of them heard anything and aren't being helf accountable to some degree.

The report itself was instigated by the school (I assume the Board was behind the hiring). I'd have preferred an independent party (maybe the State of PA, if possible) would have have been behind it. I don't like that they hired someone and the worse things sounded regarding the people they fired/dismissed, the better they as a Board look.

The entire thing is disgusting.

Oh, I can easily believe the Board didn't know squat. Our Board knows only what the President wants them to know, they come in four times a year for the dog and pony show and trust me it is all BS that they are fed.

I suppose it's possible. It's just such a small community that it sounds hard to believe.

Well, most of the Board probably does not even live there, maybe some of them not even in Pennsylvania at all. Board of Trustee isn't a job that you go to nine to five. You just need to make it in for the quarterly meetings.

I agree that it's sickening. I hope the personal responsibility laws change as a result. Let me tell you that when there are teeth in failure to report laws, people fall all over themselves to report.
