Re: OT: Penn State to renovate showers - Janit - 07-14-2012

This proposal seems to reflect the same preoccupation with surface appearances and white-washing that got them all into trouble in the first place.

It there's extra money to spend, I'd rather see it going to the kids who were damaged or some other worthy cause. If they want to change the psychological associations clinging to the buildings, rename them or dedicate them to something/someone positive. Don't just hide the negative.

They probably want to use a floor plan that will make it more difficult to see what people are doing in there. 8-)

Re: OT: Penn State to renovate showers - davester - 07-14-2012

The whole organization seems tainted to me. They haven't learned from this and still are trying to behave as though the underlying athletics program is OK, when it is quite obvious that it is a corrupt old boys club that needs to be crushed. They should cancel the football program in its entirety and tear down all of those statues and leave gaping holes where they once stood. Perhaps that would help get the enormity of the crimes of Papa Joes's boy's club to sink in to the brains of all the idiots who think of this as a minor anomaly.

I don't understand...why is this post left on this side while Lemon Drop's less inflammatory post was sent to purgatory...er, ah, I mean the political ranting side?

Joe Paterno should have been thrown under this bus at least 14 years ago. A scandal cover up with a corporate "cover the world" paint sponsorship? Genius!

"The most senior officials at Penn State had shown a “total and consistent disregard” for the welfare of children, had worked together to actively conceal Mr. Sandusky’s assaults, and had done so for one central reason: fear of bad publicity." That publicity, Mr. Freeh said Thursday, would have hurt the nationally ranked football program, Mr. Paterno’s reputation as a coach of high principles, the Penn State “brand” and the university’s ability to raise money as one of the most respected public institutions in the country.

when i read that nonsense about "BRAND," i seriously see red and could go ballistic on those azzholes...

Davester, you are right. Maybe this will fix it:

Uncle Wig wrote:
First, they should cut up the Paterno statue with welding torches and leave the pieces for the metal thieves.

Then, they should dig up Paterno's corpse and burn it in a dumpster. But not before they execute Sandusky and throw his fat, greasy carcass in there too, and make his wife watch.

Then they should divest Penn State of every last cent of value the football program represents, and distribute it among Sandusky's victims.

Agreed, why is this post still here. Maybe pRICE cUBE is first among equals.

BTW the Penn State football program earns the mother ship upwards of $75 million a year so don't expect moral outrage to outweigh income.

It was a moderators call in moving the original thread.

In interest of trying to be consistent this one has also been moved.

Re: OT: Penn State to renovate showers - Lemon Drop - 07-14-2012

Ugh. Much worse news regarding Paterno this morning. When he knew the Sandusky situation was under investigation in 2011, he renegotiated a sweetheart exit package for himself, without knowledge of trustees. He knew he wasn't going to come out of that smelling like a rose.

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/14/sports/ncaafootball/joe-paterno-got-richer-contract-amid-jerry-sandusky-inquiry.html?hp

I don't think anything short of a major administrative personnel housecleaning, both generally and in the athletic department, is going to help this school get back on track.

Thoughts on the NCAA "death penalty" for the football team?

I have mixed feelings. The administrators totally deserve it, the lower staff and students do not.

PS: And yes after reading this I think the statue of Paterno does need to come down. The family after whom the AD building is named want their name to stay, and that seems right. They did nothing wrong, and not everything that has happened there was wrong, by any stretch.
