"The torch relay clothes were NOT made in Burma. They were manufactured in Myanmar," the organizing committee responded. "In fact they were made in the exact same factory that produces clothes for GAP, North Face and other major clothing labels."

LOL!
This is part of the problem with having a free market economy system- everyone wants what they want more cheaply and this sort of situation is bound to arise as a result. Do the Olympians feel so strongly about buying a Taiwanese car? Probably not, because they recognise that to get the level of detail and mod cons that they have come to expect for a price they can afford, they need to buy a car that is built overseas.

The only real way to avoid the situation is to be prepared to pay more for your goods. to pay for something at a price level that means the homegrown factory worker can have a decent standard of living.

Not an easy sell!

As a business man, who is looking to bring a project in under budget, the question of where something is made and by whom in what conditions, is irrelevant.
Of course, if you want to become a Senator or a PotUS, you might want to juggle the immediate price savings with your personal long term gain.

Oops.

I have seen people come in and try to run organizations whose primary mission is not monetary profit as if it were, and they leave a dysfunctional mess behind every time. The United States is not a "business."

WTF Myanmar, the country formerly known as Burma are one and the same.

Almost everything is made in Asia.
That's just the way things are.

There are good reasons not to vote for Romney, but this is likely not one of them.

And no, I didn't read the article. Won't give HuffPo the page views -- they should talk about someone screwing over American workers.

Who or what are you talking about? An example, if you had any, would make your point more effective.

Not "almost everything" is made in an internationally isolated military dictatorships with whom the US had no diplomatic relations. (Things are slowly improving, but that's very recent.) That was a major screw-up by Romney's Olympic management team.
