I'm on a mission to civilize... - Chakravartin - 07-18-2012

“First of all I’m a registered Republican, I only seem liberal because I believe hurricanes are caused by high barometric pressure instead of gay marriage…”

(Sorkin's still got it.)

...

'Anyone else think that show's been getting significantly better with every episode?

You elitists and your HBO!

Will this be on netflix anytime soon? Looks like something I might like.

Show has been improving, but Sorkin could still cut about 20% of the dialog. There is just too much talking going on, and it is usually rapid fire, too.

Good interview with him on "Fresh Air" yesterday

Jeff Daniels was on a couple weeks ago

ahh, but Sorkin's command of the language is so masterful. when west wing was in reruns i would have the Tivo replay certain scenes just so i could revel in the sea of rhythmically awesome sentences.

sadly, i'll don't have HBO so i'll have to wait years to see the Newsroom.

I agree, but you can have too much of a good thing sometimes. If he would just let the characters catch their breath every now and then, it would make it more enjoyable.

That's how he does it. He crafts the dialogue like a musician. The interview on Fresh Air explains some of that. He has or did have a stammer and acknowledged he wasn't a ball of fire personality-wise.

It's low pressure that causes hurricanes, right? That's why they talk about a tropical low.

Yeah, but the windy part comes from air moving from higher pressure to lower pressure so if you sort of look at it sideways it makes sense - and it's still a pretty clever remark.
