Virginia denies benefits to illegals. - La_tuya - 01-01-2006

Associated Press, by Dionne Walker
RICHMOND -- A new Virginia law that bars illegal aliens from receiving state-funded
benefits goes into effect tomorrow. The law restricts anybody without a Social Security
number from receiving Medicaid, temporary assistance for needy families, and help from
several other state and local programs. Supporters say the measure could save the state
millions

Good. Let Mexico tend to its own poor huddled masses for a change.

Virginia is for lovers, not illegals.
New State slogan.

EEEhaw! Good job Virginia! - Macaficionado - 01-01-2006

Good Lord, it's way past time to derail the gravy train for
illegals. What we save by not giving them entitlement
packages we could build a nice wall/fence along the border.
I just wish that the President would wake up and see the
damage the illegals have done. In the local daily I note
that most of the drunk driving accidents and hit and run and
drug busts involve Mexican names. Get 'em out

He's not going to wake up to that way of thinking. Where else can his buddies in big business get the super cheap pool of labor that keeps their profits sky high?

Unfortunately, that's a pretty universal excuse for "slavery-lite".

I hate to give any legitimacy to this topic, but there really is a problem here. First-hand, I'm seeing services completely cut in medicaid due to the fact that so much money goes into health care for illegal immigrants. It isn't right. I think the people who are in this country legitimately, have more of a right to the care they need. And this is one of the few things that isn't Bush's fault. kj.

Way to go, Virginia!!!! - Berzeko - 01-02-2006

Maybe it is time for GWB to wake up and smell the coffee.

I work in a city where illegals now outnumber citizens or legal immigrants.

It is rapidly becoming a sewer as apartments are containing ten people, houses,

good Lord, only knows how many.

Gangs are becoming rampant.

I did not vote for governor of my state in November because neither would oppose illegals.

Next November, that is my only issue.

I stopped donating to the Pubs because of this several years ago.

And now, unless the party gets some juevos, will stop voting.

Excuse me but the Medicaid cuts are a direct result of the reduction in revenues due to tax cuts. This not to say a problem doesn't exist but to lay budget cuts a the door of the poor ignores reality.

As an aside, when General Motors spends more for worker health care costs than steel per vehicle produced, just maybe it isnt GM mismanagement, maybe we have a really dysfunctional health care system.

If you think about it, I'm not talking about cuts to medicaid. I'm talking about what gets done with the money once medicaid gets it. You'll have a hard time convincing me differently, because the regional medicaid people themselves are telling me this.

I completely agree about the dysfunctional healthcare system, but I don't see that as particularly relevant to this discussion, unless you are saying increased efficiency would help us provide care to more illegals. Unfortunately, increasing efficiency would only stave off trouble for a little while.

Honestly, I would be more likely to agree we should help anyone we can, on moral grounds, but the way it is being done in this case is not right. kj.

California where the illegals are treated like cherished children - Berzeko - 01-02-2006

A friend of mine in Arizona, who speaks fluent Spanish, went
to look at his mom's old house in a run down neighborhood. The
house was occupied by a man who said he came across the
border one month before. He had a lame leg from an old
injury. Already he was getting medical attention, had
subsidized rent, welfare and a car.
