ANOTHER School shooting.... - hal - 08-28-2012 Kid shoots another kid on the first day of school. Question: how many of these events are too many? at what point will EVERYONE say, "something MUST be done about this"? to me, we're already there... how 'bout you cbelt? http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/national-international/High-school-student-shot-in-Baltimore-County-167556585.html Re: ANOTHER School shooting.... - Gutenberg - 08-28-2012 Rumors are flying around here. A 17-year-old boy is at Shock Trauma in critical condition; a 15-year-old boy is in custody. Some people say it had to do with bullying, that the older boy was picking on the younger. Perry Hall is a huge high school. Classes were in session. It would be easy for a kid to leave, go home, pick up the gun and come back. There aren't that many people in the halls. Too many people who have guns leave them lying around for anyone to pick up. I believe very strongly that it is completely unnecessary to have a gun at home for "personal protection." A run-of-the mill, untrained, unschooled gun owner is far more likely to shoot himself, family or acquaintance than some marauding felon. Jeez, people. Try to figure out the difference between movies and real life. I reject the argument that if more people had been armed at that movie in Colorado or in front of the Empire State Building, there would have been fewer deaths. There would have been far more with all those vigilantes firing in an enclosed space in the damned dark. And shooting a damned gun in the middle of midtown Manhattan? There would be bodies piled up like cordwood. There needs to be sensible regulation of firearms, whether used for hunting animals or people. I am so freaking tired of all this. Re: ANOTHER School shooting.... - Speedy - 08-28-2012 I'm on the side of the NRA on this. We need to arm every school child. They should have mandatory gun training and, without consideration of financial need, be supplied with sufficient armament to adequately defend themselves. Pencils, paper and a .38 snub nose. Re: ANOTHER School shooting.... - Mac-A-Matic - 08-28-2012 More knee-jerk reaction nonsense. Re: ANOTHER School shooting.... - Black - 08-28-2012 Mac-A-Matic wrote: Um . . . Like that legislator in Georgia recommended. I mean if you go after the kids people might think you're an extremist or something. But the NRA in school is truly horrifying. Re: ANOTHER School shooting.... - Black - 08-28-2012 Speedy wrote: Um . . . I think Speedy was trying to be funny. Guns are not funny. Re: ANOTHER School shooting.... - mattkime - 08-28-2012 >>I believe very strongly that it is completely unnecessary to have a gun at home for "personal protection." the more shootings there are in conceal and carry places, the more evidence that having a gun in public isn't helpful. at least that was the case with both gabby giffords and the movie theater shooting.
