Best looking kitchen flooring for least money? - Black - 09-13-2012
Have a kitchen floor that's revealed to be in pretty bad shape once the linoleum was peeled up.
Hardwood... not happening. I don't like ceramic. Wondering what's a step above stick-on tile that will look decent last, and not scream 'cheap.'

I used offcuts of marmoleum from a local eco store and patchworked it together. Most people who express an opinion like it!

I rather like sheet vinyl with the foam base. It's soft on the feet and yeah, table legs will leave dents and you do have to be a little careful with it, but if you stay away from the cheapest grades you might get 10 years out of it and by then you're usually ready to look at something new anyway. Like wallpaper.
I like the looks of tile but it's too cold on bare feet almost all year and I drop dishes. I just do.

At $3.59/sf, as per greenfloors link, doesn't that end up costing more than hardwood?

Very cheap hardwood. Hardwood is costly and tricky to install. Linoleum isn't. If you're really going for ultralow cost then you should go with laminate flooring (e.g. Pergo or equivalent).
