Running Music? - Markiscool - 09-14-2012 After building up stamina over the past year, I'm running my first half marathon on Sunday. As I go through the day today, I'm going to be working on my "running playlist" that will be on my shuffle through the appx. 2 hours I"m running. That got me thinking, there has to be some great stuff I haven't remembered about or thought about. I'm big into 90's music, but there is also some good stuff out today that I use. What are your favorite workout songs? -M Re: Running Music? - cbelt3 - 09-14-2012 Congrats ! I'm not at your level (really only walking and riding a bike), but good energetic rock that I enjoy with a good beat keeps me moving. My latest obsession is Rush. Re: Running Music? - Markiscool - 09-14-2012 Thanks. I thought it could be a nice fun title for this Friday. I have some older stuff (Tom Petty "Runnin' Down a Dream", Queen "Somebody to Love" and "We Will Rock You", and U2 "In God's Country" and "Where the Streets Have No Name"). I've got some good 90's stuff in there ( Pearl Jam "Jeremy" and "Even Flow", Genesis "Land of Confusion", Cranberries "Dreams" and "Zombie"). All the way up to current stuff like Muse's "Uprising" and "Some NIghts" by fun. Pretty sure I'm going after work to go try to find the Iron Man 2 soundtrack since it is basically an ACDC greatest hits cd. Other suggestions? -Mark Re: Running Music? - NewtonMP2100 - 09-14-2012 ....so someone has a case of the RUNS.....?? Re: Running Music? - datbeme - 09-14-2012 Have you confirmed that you can listen to music? Not all races allow it. Re: Running Music? - DavidS - 09-14-2012 I have an extensive running playlist (96 songs currently) that goes on shuffle when I run. Mostly very upbeat, harder rock songs with older stuff like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Kiss, Rush, older U2, Van Halen, REM. Only a few "newer" songs include Foo Fighters and Linkin Park. Re: Running Music? - Bosco - 09-14-2012 Music is subjective. What one person likes another might not... Having said that, I have found that it is the drums that I focus on when working out / cycling / or running. Music that works for me (mostly old school metal): AC/DC: all albums up to and including Back in Black Metallica: first four albums also: Rush / Foo Fighters / Queens of the Stone Age / etc. Re: Running Music? - mikebw - 09-14-2012 I would put in a variety of stuff and just skip ahead if what you hear isn't helping you out at that particular mile. During my 5K earlier this year I had a range from electronic to modern rock. What was most surprising was a rather slow dark metal song that you would never think would be motivating for a run but it actually caused me to gain new focus, almost as if the song was playing out my weakness and letting me go. Re: Running Music? - ztirffritz - 09-14-2012 Anything at 120bpm should do the job. I like Iron Maiden, Ministry, Revolting Cocks, and Prodigy. The lyrics are a bit, um, provocative, but it does the trick for me. Then again, I avoid running like the plague. I'll ride a bike with square wheels before I'll agree to a run. Re: Running Music? - vision63 - 09-14-2012 I run to Alicia Keys (The Element of Freedom), Motown hits, The Script (both albums), 30 Seconds to Mars). I can run to any kind of music. Slower music actually works well for me, just double the steps within the beat. Listening to something like Carolina Liar's "Show Me What I'm Looking For," while I run or Alicia Key's "Wait Till You See Me Smile" is so beautiful and bouncy and lyrically is in tune with what I'm trying to be in my life. "So you're doing better now Everybody comes around But you don't really need 'em Cuz you're stronger and you're better and you're ready for whatever Sing" I have had myself a phucked up year and this woman sang me through it while I ran my ass off. Bless her heart. I'm much better for it. ![]() |
