Reading what is actually written, I find it hard agreeing with a "thumbs down". Seems most of the reviews quoted give it at worst is a "mixed".

Most are giving it 6-7 out of ten. Some worse, tho.
The irony is most seem to like the hardware but find major holes in the software.
These are RT models. We will have to see what the full windows OS versions look like.

I'm sure it's fine. They need apps. It's good that Microsoft has thrown in. The more options in the marketplace the better. Hopefully prices will plummet to the extent where less than a hundred bucks (or free) will be the norm. I know tons of people with no computer or internet whatsoever. Generally the most they have is what internet they have on Metro PCS on some constrained crappy phone.

sounds like the OS needs A LOT of work, but I like the form of it... seems ideal for HS & JrHS kids.

The stuff I read early mentioned the reviews were mostly mixed and that the OS was a big drawback.

One Achilles' heel is that this is NOT a laptop. The kickstand makes it virtually unusable. It's a portable desktop instead.

I read David Pogue's article about it today (NY Times). He loved the hardware, did not like the software.
