Does the new mini Pad make you want to buy? - samintx - 10-24-2012
I just don't know if people who have a regular iPad are going to be temped...or people who want a reader oare not going to look at price. I know the mini does more than the Amz etc but I just don't know if it is going to be a block buster.
What do you think? or has this been discussed. (I've been very very busy and having gotten to the Forum since the announcement.)

yes, I want one. I have an orig ipad (and an iphone4s, MBA & MP). I got it for easy convenience on the road, but I'd like the smaller version instead.
I certainly don't want one reg ipad and a mini - just the mini is fine with me.
BUT since it's $450 for the cellular version - i can wait a good long time before getting one...

Yeah, I see the appeal. More on-the-go capable. Also better for little hands. I like it as a reader; smaller and more book-like (or kindle-esque, if you prefer). Not crippled (i.e., it has wi-fi *and* cellular) so it's basically the same as a regular iPad in a smaller package.
They'll sell out the first production run in a week, if not quicker.

Not really considering buying one for myself right now, but I like that it would fit into my camera bag like the Dell mini 9 does. The other iPads do not fit at all, so if I wanted to use an iPad while traveling with my camera I would probably want the mini. Have yet to see what the pixel density looks like for reading text, I know it won't be as nice as the retina but perhaps noticeably better than the iPad 2?

Good point. I have an iPad 2; have been using it as my eReader (both iBooks and Kindle app) for a couple years now. Might go for the iPad 4 (are they calling it that now?) and wait for the inevitable iPad mini with Retina Display to come out next year.
The easy portability you mention is a key factor. I have a pilot friend (private pilot) that's saying the pilots he's talked to are much more keen on the iPad mini for that reason.

Yes, I'll get one on order. Wishing it had a Retina display - but it's not a show stopper for me. I'll order a black 32Gb with cellular/gps (mainly for the gps).

Not to stir things, I had the same thinking. But during a visit, my mom-in-law was telling me how much she wanted a Kindle, so I gave her mine (a third gen) and got an iPad, figuring I'd get a replacement Kindle a few months later but could make do with an iPad as my reader. As noted, that was several years ago.
I love the Kindle and still see it as the perfect dedicated eReader, especially the new backlit version. But the iPad gave me enough "more" to make it well worth my while.
