Safari on Windows? - pinkoos - 10-25-2012

Anybody use Safari for Windows?

If so, how does it run? Does iCloud tabs work?

Thanks.

I use it from time to time.

Not sure I know what "iCloud tabs" are. Does that mean that it will save open tabs to iCloud, and then you can open the same tabs in Safari on another computer? If so, I've never tried that.

I think overall, though, it runs just fine on my Windows 7 computer at work. No complaints, although I really don't use it all that often.

Well, I just googled around and it looks like Apple has removed any sign of being able to download Safari for Windows from their website. See this Macrumors post:

http://www.macrumors.com/2012/07/25/apples-removes-mentions-of-safari-for-windows-but-version-5-1-7-still-available/

"Update: Apple has pulled the standalone Safari 5.1.7 for Windows download page, redirecting visitors to the previous version that links to the now-discontinued general Safari download page. As a result, it appears that Safari for Windows is now not directly linked anywhere in Apple's official download pages."

Safari 5.1.7 for Windows is available for download - just tried it.

Cool, thank you very much Ken!

Re: Safari on Windows? - silvarios - 10-25-2012

I would not use Safari on Windows. Seems to be a dead end product. There are too many good browsers on Windows to be stuck with an old version of Safari.

Re: Safari on Windows? - cbelt3 - 10-25-2012

Of course the big issue with Browsers on Windows is that each of the systems companies (Google, Microsoft) seem to insist on restricting functionality in their browsers to match their OS and/or development environments. We're back to the whole non-standard 'browser wars' again. Bastiches.

Re: Safari on Windows? - pinkoos - 10-25-2012

The main reason I was asking was to see if iCloud tabs was available on the Windows version of Safari, but it doesn't seem so.

So, I don't think I'll be using Safari on Windows. I'll stick with Chrome.

Thanks.
