just saw a news report from NHK (eng Japanese channel) and they showed a BIG midnight sales party in Tokyo (it was hilarious). Lots of cheering and noise - the retail Win8 package has female anime characters on the cover.

OH, I found one:

looks like a rather large event: http://www.eweek.com/enterprise-apps/microsoft-windows-8-officially-unveiled-at-nyc-event/

this is what the MS link shows me:

yeah, that ain't happening....

I work with Windowphiles, even though they say they aren't. Today the guys were looking at Microsoft's site, were looking at the Surface and remarking how nice of a machine it is, and the one guy may ditch his iPad because Apple just screwed people by updating their flagship model in 6 months time and therefore can't be trusted. Also, he doesn't like Apple's lock on the machine, he likes that the Surface has USB and microSD slots, he says that he can't use the USB dongle on the iPad to transfer from devices, as Apple doesn't supply power to the USB port and he therefore needs to use a powered hub just to be able to transfer data. He also doesn't like that he can't get into the file system. But then he goes and says that the iPad is a well-designed device.

So no matter the lackluster reviews, he is a Surface fan and will find fault with Apple. Also, he always, for 15 years or so, has constantly made jokes about my liking Apple products.

Then there's the other two guys who are all about the Windows phones, even though the one just got that huge Samsung phone. They would like to see us get Windows phones instead of iPhones to replace the Blackberries that we now have. never mind that the push to talk app on the iPhone is m roe reliable, and that there is a whole iPhone/iPad ecosystem already in place in the rest of the company.

Sorry for the rant.

Like Bigfoot and the Lochness Montser, I won't believe it until I see one with my own eyes.
