Yikes! How does UPS, FedEx, and any others I'm forgetting make ends meet? What happens to our concept of home mail delivery (for letters and such, don't laugh, I'm sure someone sends them)? To be fair, I've only had packages delivered to my new home, zero actual mail beyond a smattering of junk.

Forced prefunding of retirement system. That's what's really killed them.

UPS & FedEx do not services areas where they can not make money - USPS is forced to. They can also make changes without waiting for congress to enact a new law.

That said... I don't even mail any bills anymore. I have a book of stamps that is about two years old and less than 1/2 used...

PS - I expect deliveries of USPS to be down to m-w-f only within 10 years

Yes, but I've never known if they're being forced to prefund the retirement system just for current employees, or also employees that they still haven't hired.

If it's the former, it's OK, but if it's the latter...

I'd be fine with eliminating a delivery day, but it shouldn't be Saturday.

A rare occasion where I agree with Black...

I was wondering how the USPS makes money today - I had to mail a ebay package a few days ago and used one of their (free) cute little Priority Mail boxes instead of Parcel Post - THAT reminded me. I think it was almost double the price.

Anyway, since the phenomenon called Facebook is getting more and more popular, our high school graduation class Facebook group tried to do a Xmas Card list last year but it fell apart. I was thinking suggesting we try it again this year. Our graduating class was 700+ with 350+ are on Facebook/joined in that Facebook group and maybe 50 or so are somewhat active.

50 Xmas cards may not save the Post Office but it is a start...

It's JCPenney's fault for getting out of the wads of ad flyer coupons business. :-)
