PAL Region 2 on Region 1 - Fritz - 11-17-2012

if I buy a Region 2 PAL disc would I have to change regions on my MacPro (1st gen Xeon) when I want to view it, or will it play anytime?

I assume it could be ripped with HB to watch on TV as an iTunes file or newer Mac w/o opto drive?

VLC used to be able to play these w/o forcing a region change.

Don't use dvd player!

The firmware in some DVD drives used by Apple keeps VLC from bypassing the region code. So it will depend on which drive is installed in your Mac Pro. It is not Apple specific, drives from these suppliers keep VLC from bypassing the region code in systems running Windows or Linux. But the region coding can be bypassed on many/most drives using VLC.

Thanks,

I have read of some recent DVD titles including code to refuse to play on a region-free drive. So, if it is for Region 1, and the drive is not, it would not play. Has anyone here run into any of those?
