First time buying toner for Brother printer. Where is the best place to buy? - rgG - 02-06-2013
I need to order a toner cart for my brother hl-2230 laser printer. I think it takes the TN450 compatible cartridge.
Where is the best place to order good compatible carts, and are there any tricks to using a non OEM cartridge.
This is my first laser printer, so I know very little about them and any tips would be appreciated.

My sister, mother and I all have the same Brother printer, so I recently bought us a 4-pack,
Please also note that you can probably push the cartridge beyond the number of pages it is supposedly rated for, depending on the amount of toner you actually use per page. The manual will have information on how to set the printer to continue mode once the yellow light comes on, and rocking the cartridge occasionally will redistribute the tone evenly. I ended up getting about 1000 pages out of the 700 page starter cartridge, but most of my pages were packing slips with moderate print density.

Google "TN450" for lots of choices.
In the mean time you can get some extra miles by removing the cart and give it a good shake and putting in back.

Thanks for the tip. It hasn't run out yet, but great to know I can squeeze a few more copies out, when it does.

I have been buying TN-450's from Meritline. Last shipment is lost. I waited three weeks due to the snail "Smartpost" free shipping. Since the package had only to go 50 miles or so I called and filled out the "paperwork" and said I still wanted the toner and drum. Ok, they said. No word or email for three days. I will phone them.
I have not had any problems with Meritline and will follow-up with the results in the future.

I get toner from Amazon for my Brother MFC480W (or whatever the number is).

I went with Amazin generic. Worked great and included reset instructions . Ditto in the remove and shake idea too!
