Re: What's the most expensive stock, per share? - hal - 02-06-2013 the old theory was that splitting a stock makes it more accessible to smaller buyers and inversely, NOT splitting it keeps the rabble out and also speculators. Not so sure how effective this is these days. A company can do as they wish - there are no rules governing when a stock MUST split. You need to look at the market cap (which is the number of outstanding shares * share price) and the P/E ratio to get an idea of the current "value" of a stock/company. I was hoping that AAPL would do a split after Cook took over. I guess it's not going to happen. A 10-1 split would put it back in the "standard trading range" (which is something I just made up). |
