music video's - davemchine - 02-07-2013 I have imported quite a few music video's into my itunes library but I don't know how to find them. I'm a little bit confused. How does itunes handle music videos? I need a coherent way to store different video types such as: short christmas video's (all I want for christmas) long christmas performances (Micheal Bubble in times square) normal music video (Thiller!) long music performance Re: music video's - voodoopenguin - 02-07-2013 Just had a quick look in mine and when "Music" is selected in the left hand column there is a line of options at the top of the main window: Songs Albums Artists Genres Videos Radio Match. Paul Re: music video's - deckeda - 02-07-2013 Beginning with iTunes 11, imported personal video files are automatically tagged or retagged as Home Videos. If you've got the left sidebar showing, Home Videos appear as a tab across the top within the Movies category. This is because everyone's favorite company to hate now assumes that if you didn't buy content from them you created it yourself, and didn't get that video from YouTube (because "who would know how to do that!" ) and because ripping one of your DVDs isn't necessary when you can just buy the movie from iTunes. Worse case, you import something and can't find it, and searching doesn't work because your file had a goofy filename etc., look at the Recently Added smart playlist. Do a Get Info on the file from within iTunes. This will allow you to edit metadata. Because Music Video is one of the main choices (Options tab!) you probably want to go with that one for each, and add appropriate Artist and other things. Run through each of the tabs (Summary, Info, Video, Sorting, Options, Lyrics, Artwork). Verify how the files appear in the iTunes browser and re-edit as necessary. You can copy/paste into those Get info fields. Re: music video's - deckeda - 02-07-2013 Note: iTunes won't let you tag any video file as "Music" (nor Audiobook, nor Voice Memo) and those choices won't appear within the Options tab of a video file's Get Info box. Re: music video's - davemchine - 02-07-2013 iTunes is beginning to be quite a bit of trouble it seems. By following everything posted here I can see that many of my imported video's are "home video's". I wonder how long until apple simple disallows importing video. If they did, that would be the end of iTunes. Re: music video's - davemchine - 02-07-2013 Oh, I should thank everyone for the help. I was able to sort everything out. Once sorted out I made smart playlists so I could always find everything. I'm probably a little bit outside the apple way of thinking but I made sure they were all categorized as Movies and then I created four genre's for each type of video and then made smart playlists with the same name as the genre. This should make it easy for me to remember. It did take me awhile to find them all as some were in TV Shows, some in Movies, and some in Music. Musical-Performance Musical-Christmas Performance Musical-Video (I could divide this up into sub-genre's if I wanted to) Musical-Christmas Video Re: music video's - deckeda - 02-07-2013 It does suck. But I don't mind complaining online about it, because I've already taken what action I can, where it counts. They DO read their feedback suggestions. Re: music video's - deckeda - 02-07-2013 and then made smart playlists with the same name as the genre. Keep in mind that (i.e. the smart playlists you made) may not be necessary because depending on how you setup iTunes' window, it's redundant. * There's always a Genre tab at the top, anyway. * If using List view, and have Genre checkmarked for the Column Browser you'll have genres visible too. Another thing you may want to consider instead, is using the Grouping field (in the Get Info box for each video) because that's also displayable just as Genre is in the Column Browser. In other words, "short videos" or "long performances" aren't genres but grouping such videos together makes sense. Re: music video's - Sam3 - 02-07-2013 Actually now that I understand how to manipulate the files through deckeda's explanation, I kind of like the flexibility of being able to move the files around. If Apple would take this one step further and allow the user to create their own categories, then one could have their own customized categorization system. As an FYI, I noticed that if you do change the categories from, say, Movies to Home Videos, iTunes actually moves the original media files from iTunes:iTunes Music:Movies to iTunes:iTunes Music:Home Videos. It's not just a metafile change. Re: music video's - davemchine - 02-07-2013 I agree the smart playlist is redundant. It is largely there to remind me of how I categorized the video's as I can't seem to keep that straight in my mind. It does make them very easy to access also. I don't understand how the grouping feature works. Could you explain that further? Thanks. |
