Looking for map app - wolfcry911 - 03-07-2013

Hi, I'm looking for a map app, preferably viewable via web, that will allow me to create routes or lines (similar to Google Maps), allow placement of placemarks with custom icons and descriptions (again like Google Maps), allow images or other data to be attached to placemarkers, and allow layering of routes/different types of placemarks.

I've been creating Municipal Fire Alarm circuits in Google Maps, showing the routes the wires take (I actually zoom in satelite mode and go from pole to pole) and the locations of street and master boxes. But I'd like to take it a step further and show locations of terminal boxes and store a picture of the inside of said terminal box; as well as layer the circuit, box, and terminal box data.

Any ideas where to look?

ArcGIS Online is pretty sharp these days, allowing easy creation of embedded maps with popup windows for database entries, images, and hyperlinks to deeper resources. It's not terribly hard to learn, and even easier if you have a good relationship with the GIS folks in your jurisdiction. You might be able to skip Google Maps altogether.

Of course the hyperlink thing might also be possible just using Google Maps with Fusion Tables. If you can get a hyperlink in the popup, then you can tie anything you want to a location pointer.

I haven't used Microsoft's MapPoint for a while, but it might now allow such things in the Office environment.

Thanks Mr. D, I'll try connecting what I have with Fusion Tables.
