I wonder what happened. Strap failure ? You *don't* do a lens change in those kind of conditions.. bring a separate back ?

What's the point of an F4 lens at this focal length?

Why not just go with F5.6 and save about 10 pounds of weight.

In either case, it's only going to be used on a tripod.

That, plus I don't think Nikon currently makes a 600/5.6. Nor any other manufacturer that I'm aware of.
