Hybrid Ink System: dye and pigment - space-time - 07-25-2013 FYI Canon releases some new low end printers today and I noticed this new feature. I am not sure if they had this one other models or not, but a year or so ago when I looked into printers I didn't notice it. I guess it must be new. My older pixma has two black cartridges, one is dye based and and the other is pigment based. I don't know what cartridge is used for the B&W proofs though.
