And I was amazed, and not in a negative way. I needed to pick up some food and they were the only place open, 24 hour super Walmart.
I'm on a low carb diet and I was absolutely blown away at the amout of low carb items that they have. More than any other grocery store in the area. They had low carb pita bread and tortilla's. A 3 foot section of sugar free candies, a 3 foot section of low carb bars(Atkins,etc.) and plenty of other random items. Did I mention the prices were good as well?
They also have extremely cheap diabetes testing meters and strips for those with that need.
I stocked up on the items I hadn't seen elsewhere, but I may change and do more shopping there in the future. The Walmart I went to is in a nice suburb and was not full of "people of Walmart". It was clean and well lit and people were friendly enough.
Anyway, with all the negative Walmart posts I figured I would add a positive one.

More of a less negative than typical. There can be no good post about Walmart* until they replace the top third of management that is working at turning the US into a third world country.

I shop for food in my local Walmart now. I've found that they're about 25% cheaper on quite a variety of items.
Case in point:
I bought a box of cake flour for $3.28 at the Walmart a few days ago. My other neighborhood grocery store charges about $4.50 for the exact same thing.
I can't think of any good reason to pay the higher price.
I drink a fair amount of non fat milk. I ran the numbers, and buying milk at Walmart saves me about $75 a year.
It wouldn't surprise me if I save over $1K a year shopping for common items at Walmart.
On the other hand, I also shop here...:-)

The issue with Walmart has never been their prices or the variety of the products they carry.
The issue with Walmart has always been how poorly they compensate their employees and the destructive impact their rock-bottom pricing has had on mom-and-pop businesses in a given locale.

Because of their unethical business practices, they have also helped to put US manufacturing businesses out of business. Businesses that had been around for decades and employed hundreds, if not thousands of people.
When Sam Walton was around, Wal-Mart was run in an ethical way. After he died, they changed course completely.
