Clamshell mode and Windows laptops - Acer - 07-26-2013
I'm looking for a configuration of a windows laptop with a separate screen. For this particular config, two open screens is not preferred. Do windows laptops generally operate well closed these days, or is that something I am going to have to specify?

Yes, you can operate them closed. Does not matter the model or brand.
Unlike with Macs, you actually have a choice in Windows' Control Panel (Hardware/Power settings) on what the laptop will do when the lid is closed (e.g. Sleep, Do Nothing, etc.) - you will just change the power settings to 'do nothing'.
No problem on what you are trying to accomplish here.

As onthedownlow mentioned. Just make sure airflow is clear. We had a Dell model years ago that, when it was operating closed in its docking station, would overheat in a half an hour. The docking station blocked the intake vent. D'Oh !

There can be some bugs depending on the graphics and the chipset drivers but most of the time you just have to change preferences depending on what you want to do.
