How-to: Installing Motion Sensor (HUGE Bandwidth) - kap - 07-31-2013 Sorry about the size but I don't know any other way to embed pictures taken from my Android. Want to remove this: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() And replace this: ![]() ![]() Re: How-to: Installing Motion Sensor (HUGE Bandwidth) - DP - 07-31-2013 I've never seen that "Protectconnect" thing. Is it necessary or a code thing? If not, the motion detector can be hooked up just like a normal switch. One white wire to the silver color screw, one black wire to the black screw, then the copper wire (the ground wire) to the green screw. Re: How-to: Installing Motion Sensor (HUGE Bandwidth) - davester - 07-31-2013 First thing is to turn off the breaker. Second thing is to look in the instructions for the motion sensor to see what the minimum box size is, then measure the existing box to see if it is big enough. If it's big enough then it's a very simple matter to pull the old switch and wire it up according to the motion sensor instructions. If the box is too small it can sometimes be a bear to change them out. One possible issue is that your old switch appears to be mounted in some kind of box within the regular junction box. I'm not sure how that works or how its secured...perhaps those screws on the bottom right and top left corners. Re: How-to: Installing Motion Sensor (HUGE Bandwidth) - cbelt3 - 08-01-2013 Second the vote to shut off power and remove the black box thingy. There's wires in there someplace ! Re: How-to: Installing Motion Sensor (HUGE Bandwidth) - macphanatic - 08-01-2013 The old switch is removed by removing the brass screws. Make sure that the power is off before removing it. Do not disconnect any wires from the switch. Post pictures showing how the wires connect. I see several black, 1 blue, 1 green and 1 white wire. I need to see how this is wired to see if the new switch will work. Re: How-to: Installing Motion Sensor (HUGE Bandwidth) - DP - 08-01-2013 There I am-guilty of assuming. Yes; first, turn off the power to the switch at the breaker... Re: How-to: Installing Motion Sensor (HUGE Bandwidth) - kap - 08-01-2013 Yes, I always have the power switched off at the main circuit. Okay. I am going to attempt to explain this setup. Part # 1 light switch Part # 2 light switch at an angle Part # 4 is you see after pull off part # 2 Part # 3 and # 4 are snapped in together. In order for me to get to the wires I must remove item # 3. I have already tried. It's tucked in very well and tight. Not sure I want to chance of messing it up. I am actually looking for a motion sensor that has the same design. The one I bought, pictures at the bottom, from Home Depot is a mismatched. |
