Toaster Oven for Cooking/Baking a Small Amount of Food - kap - 09-20-2013

Because the portions of our meals are never large enough to power up the standard size oven which comes with the apt so we rarely ever use it. Our home-cooking meals are baked, broiled, boiled and toasted. Which of the 2 lower price ones have you had personal experiences? Or you have some other models in mind?

If you are gonna use it a lot, then get the best one.

We have a KitchenAid one, paid $99 at Costco, cant STAND the tiny type on the dials. Impossible to read. Wife wanted it, so whaddu gonna do.

Love our new Breville compact smart oven.
We were able to get a factory refurbished one from Amazon for only $119.00.
It is just the right size for us, and the price was terrific, and it looks like a brand new unit.
Unfortunately, I don't see any for that price right now at Amazon.

Wow, I was going to recommend this http://www.amazon.com/DeLonghi-EO1260-Stainless-Steel-Toaster-Broiler/dp/B000B8YGSS because we've been cooking with ours almost every night for two years and it's been great.

However, the reviews are just AWFUL. Evidently we lucked out and got the only good one ever made. :S

Be sure to get the "convection" feature. Actually I've had years of good service from a cheapo DeLonghi.

Wow. Those reviews make router and coffeemaker reviews look like raves. Congrats on finding the diamond in the rough.

I have a version of that Hamilton Beach in your link (the third one down), and really, really like it. Easy to clean and nicely styled. It does an especially good job toasting bagels... I haven't used it very much as an oven, but I'm reasonably sure it'd do fine with that too.

Edit: the Amazon reviewers are crazy. Apparently they expect this thing to cure cancer or bring about world peace. (Big Grin

Some years ago I bought an older model of this one at Sam's Club for about $60:
http://www.amazon.com/Black-Decker-CTO6335S-Countertop-Convection/dp/B0043E6PLC/ref=sr_1_15?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1379660338&sr=1-15&keywords=toaster+oven+convection
...and it's been just great. I use it every day for baking and toasting. It bakes very well (I usually use the convection fan) and has plenty of room inside – I can bake a 12" pizza or 12 muffins at a time if I need to (although a muffin pan with large handles won't fit).

I'm sure the Brevilles are very nice units, but this Black & Decker has been really great for the price.

I'd recommend the Sharp Carousel convection microwave for $279

Kap,

I recommended the large Brevelle to rgC and I continue to stand by that recommendation even if she bought the smaller model. It's a critical tool in my kitchen. I wish I'd bought it years ago. It's that good. See the rgC's thread for details.
