So some guy "hired" a bunch of homeless people to buy all the phones for him, and when they got them he didn't pay up? Assuming he at least had paid for the phone, but that's pretty crappy to exploit someone like that.

When they got them they tried to get more money than was agreed upon previously. I think they realized they got taken advantage of and decided they wanted more.

Locally, the store ran out of phones in about an hour. Most of the lines disappeared unless people wanted to stay in line for the next shipment. I bet it was pretty quiet by 11 AM, so no reason to avoid it.

Horrible. Police are not investigating this, but if I were the manager of that Apple store I'd try to do something for those exploited people, just as a show of good will.

The LA Times story is different than that - where did you here that version?
