Need grab bag gift ideas - Black - 12-08-2013 Ugh, hate this stuff..and I have to buy for someone I know almost nothing about. I guess my main question is..... those stupid gift cards.... are there any left that function as a straight gift cert/line of credit with no added fees? Last time I looked at one of those displays most had a fee to purchase them, and then they start getting eaten by other fees after a set amount of time. Looking at 4 gifts in the $5 range and one bigger one (~$30?) Re: Need grab bag gift ideas - dmann - 12-08-2013 Usually it's the bank issued general merchandise Visa/MC/Amex cards that have the "activation" fees and such. Amazon cards, specific retail store and restaurant cards don't usually have fees (hidden or otherwise.) BTW, I have seen people go nuts over those little USB car adapters and mitten/boot warmer packets. Those can usually be found for under $5 these days. I think those are things people won't usually buy for themselves but like having. ![]() DM Re: Need grab bag gift ideas - Lemon Drop - 12-08-2013 Starbucks cards purchased from their stores have no fees or expiration dates other ideas for the $5 range: jar candles from Dollar Store cute container from Dollar store type place, wrapped with festive bow and filled with: candy, nuts, dried fruit, trail mix, coffee beans, or homemade goody cute container with a little starter plant/herb candy is always popular multi-colored sharpies (seriously, I got this once, loved it) for the $30 gift lots of choices - wool scarf (on sale at a place like Penney's,) high quality fruit basket. Re: Need grab bag gift ideas - Black - 12-08-2013 Good stuff, thank you. Keep 'em coming :-) Re: Need grab bag gift ideas - dmann - 12-08-2013 If you're open to ideas.... Totally agree with the Sharpie set. Great item!! Texting gloves Manicure set- file, clippers, cuticle cream, good hand lotion. More fun options if for a woman, but can be practical for a guy, too. Recipe in a jar (cookie or cake mix, pasta sauce with spices, soup, etc.) you can find tons of these on Pinterest and AllRecipes. Small journal with a nice pen or small photo album Thermal travel mug (most good ones are closer to the $30 price point) but of the cheapies, I think one can never have too many. Throw in some good coffee or tea... DM Re: Need grab bag gift ideas - Mr Downtown - 12-08-2013 Well, that Cabela's multi-tool is so tempting that I ordered five for stockings. Re: Need grab bag gift ideas - Robert M - 12-08-2013 Black, I have an account with TD Bank and was able to get a VISA gift card from the local branch. No charge. The card I got was a standard VISA gift card with all the usual bells and whistles.
