WEATHER ADVISORY

Weather Advisory No. 2
For: Low Pressure Area (LPA)
Issued at: 11:00 AM, 12 January 2014
The Low Pressure Area (LPA) was estimated at 190 km east of General Santos City (6.2°N, 127.0°E). This weather system will bring cloudy skies with moderate to heavy rains and thunderstorms over Mindanao (especially Caraga Region and Compostela Valley), Leyte and Samar Provinces, Negros Provinces, Cebu and Bohol which may trigger flashfloods and landslides. Residents are advised to take all the necessary precautionary measures.

Strong to gale force northeasterly surface wind flow associated with the surge of the Northeast Monsoon is expected to affect Northern and Eastern Luzon, Visayas, Caraga Region, Misamis Provinces, Zamboanga Del Norte, Davao Oriental and Davao Del Sur. Hence, small seacrafts and fishing vessels are advised not to venture out into the sea due to the big waves generated by this weather system.

The next update will be incorporated in the public weather forecast at 5:00 p.m. today while the next advisory will be issued at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow.

Thanks DP it was another sunny and dry early morning here.
Some cloud cover is drifting in now. I've felt like we would
be getting some rain here soon, yet Central Luzon is rather
dry and warm.

We are quite safe here so far.

I am happy that Lilian's family has elected to spend the rest of January with us.
Her older brother Joey has found a decent job as a Security Guard close to where
we are now and closer to our new apartment.

My concerns are for those still left in the remote regions and provinces of the
Southern Philippines. Coastal communities and mountainous river valleys will
likely be gravely affected by this new storm.

Thanks again for your thoughts.

When I first saw your post, I thought is was about the "Liberation of the Philippines Army"...
Yeah, it's been really cold here-a slight warmup right now-but I'll take this over typhoons any day. We complain about Winter but in this part of the world, but we don't have typhoons, or hurricanes, or earthquakes, mudslides, wildfires, tsunamis, poisonous snakes, fire ants, scorpions, tarantulas, etc., etc.
My dad remembered, when he was in the Philippines during WW2, the days on end of continuous rain when nothing would dry out. Even under cover, the humidity was 100% and your wet clothes stayed wet. Trench foot, or jungle rot, was prevalent and they would go barefoot and just in shorts like the natives to avoid the foot problems. That and he was orange from the malaria medications they took...
Again, hope all goes well there-they've (you) had enough to last for awhile!

Thanks for your post DP, yes I should have mentioned, an "LPA" s an acronym for
Low Pressure Area.

This current LPA will continue to bring heavy rain and winds for some regions of the Philippines.
As of now the header has been changed at Typhoon 2000 <> http://www.typhoon2000.ph/

"Tropical Cyclone Formation over the Western Pacific Ocean, South China Sea & the Philippine Sea is not expected through Wednesday, January 15, 2014."

In a hopeful and Ideal world the weather will improve and people will be better prepared
and leave areas of high risk if they can. Sad to say some Filipinos are so poor they can't
even afford a ride out of their villages and provinces.
