just upgraded my iPhone 5 to iOS 7 - space-time - 04-20-2014

I was on iOS 6.1.4 until now, I just did the 7.1 upgrade over the air, went smooth, no problems. I know I can't go back. I guess I have to get used to it now. so far I am not impressed. I think 6 was more elegant than 7.

i do like the quick access to wifi, bluetooth, the calculator and the flashlight. definite improvement there.

"I think 6 was more elegant than 7."

:agree:

6+ months into iOS7 and I still hate it. I would go back to iOS6 in a heartbeat myself if Apple didn't block it. I'm still learning Android and, when my current ATT contract is up in a year and a half, may dump the iPhone all together as I love the big screen on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 that I ported my landline number to.

and now I am going through Settings, General, Accessibility and using features designed for people with disabilities.

this is similar to buying new sneakers and then having to use crutches to walk, when you didn't need such aid with the old shoes. But you can't go back to your old shoes. you're stuck with the new ones.

Can't say I prefer the whole flat look, not in iOS, not in windows 8. It will eventually look more 3d again and then all go flat again if we wait long enough.

You might be over thinking it; it's just a smartphone.

A smartphone that now is much more difficult to use and looks uglier. I put iOS7 up there with the round mouse as one of Apple's colossal screwups.

"Colossal screwup"? You gotta be kidding me. I know there are aspects that are less-than-perfect, but I think you're making Mt. Everest out of a molehill. There are more than enough welcome new features to make it worth getting used to the 'flat' look. But seriously, even that's not THAT bad!

I think iOS7 has a lot of good under-the-hood changes that may not be obvious to a lot of users right away.

I consider iOS7 more like Lion - it had some backward steps setting up for 10.8 and 10.9.

I disagree completely. I wasn't talking about the under the hood features. I was talking about the completely FUBARED UI. The UI is arguably the feature that made the iPhone the market leader. They've thrown the skeuomorphic baby out with the bathwater and seem to have picked colors and icon use randomly, whereas previously the UI was a model of intuitive simplicity. Whereas it was previously easy to glance at a screen with multiple visual clues as to how it worked, now it is difficult to figure out on many screens what are buttons, what are swipe directions, etc. Not only that, but the various colors and icons are now inconsistent between different screens and apps, even apple apps. Add to that the ridiculously skinny fonts that people over 50 can't even read and you have a COLOSSAL SCREWUP! What is really telling is that I know two people who have recently bought iPhones for the first time and they just can't figure some things out at all (for example the pinball style selection boxes, which had an obvious function before but now are completely cryptic.

Even if you can actually figure out how to work this thing, why oh why did apple choose to mimic the styleless google and Microsoft Windows 8 interface look.
