About those slower 2014 MBS SSDs…? - RAMd®d - 05-09-2014 As mentioned in http://forums.macresource.com/read.php?1,1717421,1717421#msg-1717421 Why are they slower? Did Apple try to save some money? Were they hoping to make it up in RAM? The MBAs are being advertised as faster and cheaper, but apparently they're only cheaper. Didn't they have some kind of problem with SSDs in earlier incarnations? Re: About those slower 2014 MBS SSDs…? - TheTominator - 05-09-2014 From what I read, they are the same speed as the previous MacBook Air SSDs. The difference in speed they measure is due to variations in the SSD chips. Apple uses SSDs from different vendors. The new model has the same variations in speed as the old. Great news that OWC is working on upgrades for the newer SSDs, The pricing will determine if that's new, good news, or indeed great news. Re: About those slower 2014 MBS SSDs…? - silvarios - 05-09-2014 Still stinks that Apple ships different performing parts in the same model, but that is nothing new. I just wish Apple actually made mention to such differences in their specs. That's one of the primary weaknesses of pre built computers, you never know what parts are in your system until after purchase. Happens with most brands and even other types of electronics (TVs, routers. Etc.) If I'm remembering correctly, not naming one or the other also stinks. Not that it makes much difference, once you buy a machine. |
