not my brightest moment: forgot to pay a speeding ticket - deckeda - 07-11-2014

Glanced at the "14" in the year and thought it said the court date was the 14th. No, it was yesterday, the 10th. Wonderful.

Small town out of state. There's no web presence for the court for payment/fines but apparently the clerk's office is open Saturday morning.

I have a feeling this went from merely expensive to numbing.

Welcome to the aging process? I managed to forget to pay a property tax bill this year. The sort of thing that happens to me so rarely I spent a fair amount of time digging for proof that I paid it....
If only not paying it would result in losing the building.

Edit-- oh I see it was due to a vision problem-- I guess the aging process is off the hook this time ;-)

Wow deck, I thought I was reading about me! I got a speeding ticket last week, been trying to pay it online like officer said I could do, called a number the site had, then their phone connection cut off! Oh well, at least I have until 8/26 to pay it, if I can ever learn how much I owe!

I won't blame it on my eyesight nor aging, but good old fashioned stupidity for not looking at the ticket for more than a second over the course of the last 5 weeks.

Apparently the old saying really is true: I'm so broke I can't even pay attention. Perhaps I should look on the "bright side" and be happy I didn't lose the ticket?

Thanks - I don't feel so bad about forgetting to renew my driver's license. It's been so long since I had to go to the DMV for a new license - the one that just expired shows me with no gray hair - that was a LONG time ago.

I'll gladly swap you fines, not even knowing what either of them are. Need my PayPal address? I accept checks, too.

Another bright side... You didn't forget about it for six and a half years, and then find out there's a bench warrant for your arrest for the ticket in Needles, California... (happened to a friend of mine... The warrant turned up when he applied for a job that required a background check. Ooops... fortunately, he was able to clear it up with a check without a court appearance 700 miles away...).

Move to Mexico, they won't come after you

The last ticket I had went well for a change. There was a two day overlap from the due date and the time when a safe driving course was an option. That keeps points of the license and state law does not allow insurers to raise rates or cancel due to the ticket. So I timed everything right and made it fairly painless.

Sometimes being old means a heightened ability to be devious.

If you have to pay it in person drive all the way there with the turn signal and high beams on.
