I can't get to any Apple website even though downforeveryoneorjustme.com says it's fine - hal - 07-13-2014 No computer on either of the two networks here can get to any apple web page. All other sites are just fine. I've reset modems, routers and everything I can think of... Renewed DHCP lease... Works well on the iphone when wifi is shut off... I get nothing.... it's been about 30min Ideas? Re: I can't get to any Apple website even though downforeveryoneorjustme.com says it's fine - clay - 07-13-2014 dns issue? try running a spot check at alertra.com....they show you results for a bunch of geo locations. Could be that you are routing through one that is having issues right now. Re: I can't get to any Apple website even though downforeveryoneorjustme.com says it's fine - modelamac - 07-13-2014 Can you get to any other websites on wifi using a Mac? "Works well on the iphone when wifi is shut off" - looks as though it is a network problem. Can you use ethernet to one of the network routers, or modem? Re: I can't get to any Apple website even though downforeveryoneorjustme.com says it's fine - hal - 07-13-2014 Ethernet is used on my desktop machine - no dice... tried two other computers including one running 10.6.8 clay wrote: All shows fine except Shanghai was problematic and Singapore was dead. Why would I be routing though China or Singapore? Re: I can't get to any Apple website even though downforeveryoneorjustme.com says it's fine - Chakravartin - 07-13-2014 Run the Network Utility from your Utilities folder and do a traceroute to apple.com. Does it report an unknown host? Does it stall and show asterisks at one point? If so, what's the last server that it hit before it stalled? Re: I can't get to any Apple website even though downforeveryoneorjustme.com says it's fine - hal - 07-13-2014 I was just coming back to say that the spigot has opened. A page that had been sitting there trying to load for 30 min (never got the network error thingy) loaded and now all computers open all apple web pages at blazing speeds. Chakravartin wrote: SO assuming that this was the case, this is one of those things that one can do nothing about and just wait for the server to reset - or something like that??? Thanks - I'll keep this routine for future reference... Re: I can't get to any Apple website even though downforeveryoneorjustme.com says it's fine - Filliam H. Muffman - 07-13-2014 I would guess something amiss at your DNS provider. Which are you using, default by the ISP? Next time, try http://17.142.160.59 Re: I can't get to any Apple website even though downforeveryoneorjustme.com says it's fine - hal - 07-13-2014 Forgot to mention - I tried a different DNS server - no effect... Basically, yes. If it's a DNS problem then you'll either get an unknown host error or it'll take forever to resolve the address of the server you're trying to connect to. If it's a problem on one of the (potentially dozens) many ISPs between your home and the site then you'll see asterisks show up indicating time-outs waiting for the next host to respond en route to the site you're trying to hit. The neat thing is that both issues can be resolved by changing your DNS settings. Temporarily switching to a public DNS server on another coast or continent can make your queries take an alternate route to the site for the duration of the outage.
