Amazon is slouching toward my $#!† list. - Seacrest - 08-14-2006

It seems they have developed this habit of raising the prices of items I leave in my cart for awhile, while I browse around for more. Maybe it's coincidence that the prices of these items did increase overnight, but I suspect they are doing something in their software to try to manipulate me somehow.

It they are trying to induce me to buy the items right away, then the tactic has failed.

Happened to me a few times. I emailed them and they said that I should email them after I placed the order. . .they would credit me the difference.

Worked fine the few times that it happened and I save a nice chunk of moola. . .

also. . .I notice that for certain items. . .they eventually go back to the "lowest" price. . .you just have to wait. . .so if you're not in a hurry. . .put it in your cart and watch it.

got back in on some deals this way. . .but there is no guarantee it will happen. . .

That is a crap practice. Thay got their hand slapped a few years back for having so many different prices. Are you buying gallons of gasoline? That might be the reason.

I always have a few dozen items saved. Every time I access my cart, there's at least a couple of price changes (assuming it's been at least a day or two between visits).

They place a a notice in red type at the top of the page detailing the price changes, and it's just as often that the prices go down as go up.

Amazon's one of the good guys--if you have a legit concern, they'll always do right by the customer (easiest method of gaining satisfaction: call their customer service).

yes that is how I watch it. ..check the cart every once in a while to see if any price changes. . .one rub though. . a few months ago they completely deleted my cart. ..not sure why but everything was gone.

Yeah, when the price goes down I never complain.
Funny how that works.

Amazon has been doing this for some time. Yes, it's manipulation, trying to motivate you to buy before the price goes up again, or as a "you should have bought then..." reminder.

But this is *not* the same practice as before, when different people got different prices for the same product. THAT's what they got spanked for.

On the other hand, there's *nothing* wrong with giving you a better price than the next guy, to induce you to buy something already in your cart. I don't know that they do that, at all.

But there have been some price drops that were lower than when I put the items in my cart, and that's made made me spend.

Not so much anymore.

This...

...and they've started letting partner companies mine their databases.

It's also a good idea to clean out your cookies or cache. Different prices show up depending on if you've looked at it before or not, kind of like with airline tickets sometimes.
