anyone able to use an iDevice usb cord after a year? - wolfcry911 - 08-25-2014 I take very good care of my Apple products and I'm a bit upset over the quality of the usb charging cables for both iPad and iPhone. I have one of each and therefor two cables and after one year's use they're both dead. I should have had Apple replace the first one within the first year, but now I believe I'm out of warranty for both ![]() Can anyone recommend a decent quality third party (lightning) cable that doesn't cost more than a battleship? Would love a 6' but 3' works... Re: anyone able to use an iDevice usb cord after a year? - jdc - 08-25-2014 Apple store close by? 99% They will replace them regardless of age, especially if the look nice. Re: anyone able to use an iDevice usb cord after a year? - wolfcry911 - 08-25-2014 They look brand new - I'll give it a try. Re: anyone able to use an iDevice usb cord after a year? - Lew Zealand - 08-25-2014 Every one of my 6 30-pin and Lightning connectors work and some are 8 years old (1G Nano). However, I don't pack them around so they don't get much abuse. Re: anyone able to use an iDevice usb cord after a year? - space-time - 08-25-2014 iPhone 5 and iPad 4 from Dec 2012, both Lightning cable, 2 kids in the house, guess what
Both work just fine
Re: anyone able to use an iDevice usb cord after a year? - sekker - 08-25-2014 Monoprice.com Their cables are Apple-certified and come with a lifetime warranty. Re: anyone able to use an iDevice usb cord after a year? - wolfcry911 - 08-26-2014 Lew and space, that's what irks me - I'm the only one using the lightning cables, my wife and kids have iPhone 4 and my daughter has an iPad 2. Their 30pin cables have been beat to hell and still work! I've taken my cable out of the house maybe a half dozen times and only charge the phone every two or three days and the iPad even less often. My cables look new but won't work. The girls' 30 pin cables have wires exposed, are pulled from the socket by the cable, are dirty and who knows what else... To be honest, I was reading all these stories about failure and I tried to not let the kids plug/unplug the cable for the first few months but that didn't last long. At some point I gave up. I found $10 original cables at OWC and bought a spare, which now I took at work, since all cables at home still work fine after 2 years. I also have 2 car chargers (yes, lighting, one is ATT and one is Kensington) and those work fine too. Re: anyone able to use an iDevice usb cord after a year? - cbelt3 - 08-26-2014 The early generation Lightning cables from Apple seem to have had a strain relief / shielding durability problem. I had two fail in three months of use. The Apple store replaced them, no questions asked. I have a gazillion aftermarket 30 pin cables, all still working. I even have the 30 pin cable from my original iPod Photo ! Re: anyone able to use an iDevice usb cord after a year? - sekker - 08-26-2014 My original iPhone cable failed within about 2 months. Otherwise, I cannot think of any 30 pin cables that have failed. I've tossed a half-dozen third party lightning, but the Monoprice have been great. Ordered a half-dozen more this weekend's sale. |
