How to connect to the internet with a laptop and a cell phone - kap - 10-25-2014

Where I will be going there is no internet access. I have a Lenovo R61 laptop running Ubuntu 14x and a Tmobile LG MS323. How do i connect to the 'net?

Can your phone act as a Personal Hotspot? Major carriers will charge extra to allow a phone used on their system as a hotspot (and probably won't provide extra data) but, that would be the easiest way. Modern smartphones are usually easy to set up as a Personal Hotspot and, once set up, you can usually connect multiple devices via your WiFi network. Do set up encryption.

Yes, got it setup. Easier than anticipated ... using it right now. Encryption? Still trying to figure that out.

kap,
Generally Android already has WPA2 enabled with a basic password. Feel free to change to a stronger one. You can also use a USB connection.

If you go with a tethered USB phone, it will stay charged. Just saying.
