Rust Remover - kap - 08-22-2006

Does vinegar really work in removing rust? Found that solution from google. I need to remove rust from a iron steel wood burning stove and interior pans of a gas stove. I'd prefer not to use toxic chemicalx. Any suggestions? TiA

Not vinegar (acetic acid solution), but phosphoric acid : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phosphoric_acid

Note especially the sections
"Rust Removal"
and
"Processed Food Use"

Acetic acid/vinegar/ethanoic acid is useful for descaling/deliming : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acetic_acid

Formic acid/methanoic acid is also of interest; ants produce and use it as a defensive weapon : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Formic_acid

How about Electrolysis..

Has worked for me in the past on a small scale.
Read good things about guys using it on parts as big as machine tools.
