Just installed a new router - ASUS RT68P - Buck - 01-17-2015
In one word WOW. The old one was acting up so I decided to bow to the rave reviews and bought one.
1. The range is much better; it even works great in the detached garage.
2. Now I get 125 Mbps download speed instead of 50, from comcast. Up is still 10Mbps. Maybe this is just a coincidence.
3. The number of users is reduced. I wonder if neighbors were on the old one without me knowing.
4. For some reason, even my Verizon extender has a bigger range. How is that possible???

Well, you old wireless router could have limited speeds that fast, yes. it was probably a "g" rated router.
But most of us don't have that speed.
Upload is impressive, but still slower than even the first wifi offered, 802.11b

No, b generally would not hit 10Mbps. Theoretical maximum is 11 Mbps, real world might be half that throughput. 802.11g is needed for anything over 5 Mbps or so.
