Their business seems like a very tight family affair. I have their SR150 headphones which are wonderful. The Facebook Vintage HiFi group seems to swear by their phono cartridges.

Their cartridges were very good audiophile quality. Excellent reputation and less expensive then others.

I've had a pair of their SR60's for about 20 years or so.

Good bang for the buck.

He is one of the few people who can unreservedly be called a legend in the American audio industry. A gracious man about whom I never heard an unkind word, working in a marketplace (specialist audio) awash in egomaniacs with vastly less talent. RIP Joe.

I also have original SR60s, a good value still. A few years ago these $70 headphones developed a problem with some wiring insulation coming out of one earpiece. I sent them to Grado and they repaired them (what? repairable tech??) for $25 including shipping.

Grado Labs earns a royalty on each MC cartridge sold today even though Grado stopped making them back in the 60s. Grado still sells phono cartridges today, from about $70-$3500. I have one of the older (late '80s/early '90s lower-end Signature models, the 8MZ. It cost $200.

The headphones and phono cartridges are made in Brooklyn, still. Here's a neat article about the company, http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2014/07/some-of-the-worlds-most-reknowned-headphones-built-in-a-brooklyn-townhouse/
