Clearing Out My Old Mac Iron - Jack D. - 12-12-2005

Well, today was just the beginning of a larger project. Sadly I have too many Macs that are just collecting dust and I have started the purge.

I posted a bunch of stuff on 4 local freecycle lists and after several responses I am now lighter by 2 7100's, 2 8100's, 1 Performa 6320 (with remote), 1 G3 266 DT, 1 PB180, 1 PB Duo 270 w/Duo Dock II, 3 monitors, 3 external CD drives, 2 Zip drives, 2 small SCSI HD's and several SCSI cables.

A good start and they didn't go to the landfill.

Sigh...

Yet.

A good un-haul.

Hey, if it's useless to you and you give it away to someone else, no matter if they trash it or not, you've done as much as you can. Chances are if someone goes out of their way to pickup a computer from someone else, they probably have a use for it, or at least won't turn around and dump it right away.

Hey - I wanted those .... oops - "landfill" not lafinfil

A couple of months ago I took some used oil, car batteries and stuff to
our local recycle center and came home with two G3 B&Ws.
They were missing the RAM and zip drives but worked otherwise.

I gave on to a friend that I had loaned a G3DT to for internet use and
now I got the G3DT back.
Actually I was quite pleased how well a G3450/512MB runs 10.3 and
safari on cable internet. Very snappy.

Lafinfil, that's how I got into this mess! Everytime I get rid of 1 or 2 I seem to come home with 3 more... I guess i never really grasped the concept of ending with less than I started with.

Feeling a bit envious, 'cause at the Mason County landfill, you never see any Macs at all -- except for a couple I threw away, and I didn't see them for long; they really disappeared into the muck fast.

Finding a free Smurf would be great.

At my local county dump, there are signs prohibiting 'Scavengers' from taking stuff from the dropoff area.

I took a few junked mac classics a few years ago, mostly CRT tubes and busted up logic boards. Plenty of PC junk, monitors and some other home electronics, VCR's and TV's...

Good thing I don't work there, or I would be drowning in junk. Also a good thing that technology is getting smaller, not bigger...
