Going camping this weekend!! - john dough - 05-29-2015

I cannot remember the last time I was camping and I am super excited for the next few days. Where we are going is almost off the grid (cell signals are hit or miss as it is in the mountains), which meand that we only get to spend time, uninterrupted, with each other - which is something that I am VERY much looking forward to.

Not that this will be roughing it: the campground has electricity for the blender that will whip up margaritas by the campfire tonight. Smile

you don't need electricity for that!

Have fun! And don't get lost! Stick to trails, no shortcuts. Leave a note in your tent where you're headed. Seriously! Prepare for the unexpected and relish not needing preparations Smile

My girlfriend has a trailer and we are settling in a camp ground where she has been in several times before. The trails we are going biking on are pretty flat and we are 2 miles from a town. I am not taking anything for granted, as even when I go biking on city streets, I have an emergency kit (bandages, space blanket, Anker battery) in my hydration bag and always bring more food and water than I would need.

Smart! Most of the people we go after make a decision to take a shortcut and leave the trail. They may have underestimated water needs, distance, fitness level, time needed before dark... And then they're lost with nothing more than a useless cell phone. Or, the trail isn't well marked and they're off of it before they realize it. I'd throw a basic compass in your bag. In a lot of cases it's tough to keep a bearing and folks end up walking in circles without realizing it. It's also fun to use just for grins.

Fine, we are parking! This is one of the few places we found (on short notice) where dogs are allowed - we are bringing her dog on this trip. We are going to Yellowstone later this summer (actually camping in a tent then, bill) and pets are verboten (due to the fact that they would be looked at as prey).

And make that a REAL compass, not a compass app on your smart phone!
