Best video editing tool for teenager ? - cbelt3 - 05-29-2015 My youngest is getting into making videos for his school and friends. He's using my Mini (16G RAM, dual core 2.6GHz A5, Yosemite ). What would be a good tool (with edu discount, natch) to get him to use ? I stopped at iMovie, so have no clew.... I expect he would migrate to more industrial strength if this went serious... tia ! Re: Best video editing tool for teenager ? - robfilms - 05-29-2015 cbelt3- the most obvious choice would be imovie 10 followed by premiere elements 13. here is a comparison: http://www.macworld.co.uk/review/video/apple-imovie-10-versus-adobe-premiere-elements-13-comparison-review-3493822/ ymmv be well. rob Re: Best video editing tool for teenager ? - Ombligo - 05-29-2015 It isn't the fanciest but it does work and is free -- MPEG Streamclip Re: Best video editing tool for teenager ? - August West - 05-29-2015 robfilms is, naturally, one of the best sources for this info. I will also point out that I have seen Media Composer at a substantial discount, depending on his seriousness for the subject. To me, he should exhaust iMovie, and then go to either Media Composer of Final Cut. Of course, I'm a sound guy so no one listens to what I have to say. ![]() ETA: After reading rob's link, it seems Premiere has come a long way from when I experienced it. Seems like a nice tool. FWIW, looking for edu discounts, be sure to check out studica.com. Heh, after looking over the current prospects, I'm seeing all kinds of subscription models. Maybe Final Cut is the best possibility. Re: Best video editing tool for teenager ? - mikebw - 05-29-2015 Students and teachers can get the whole Adobe Creative Cloud subscription for just $20/mo. That includes pretty much everything- Premiere Pro, Photoshop, AfterEffects, Illustrator, Audition, InDesign, Flash... but not Lightroom. http://www.adobe.com/creativecloud/buy/students.html I use Premiere a lot, and find it to be quite good for my needs. Final Cut X could also be a great choice, but I'm not aware of pricing for education. EDIT: When I was a teenager I did my video editing with a VCR and a Hi8 camera. Audio on the PowerMac 6100 connected to a mixer and then the VCR. Funtimes! Re: Best video editing tool for teenager ? - Robert M - 05-29-2015 cbelt, Also check out Robert Re: Best video editing tool for teenager ? - robfilms - 05-29-2015 cbelt3- adobe photoshop elements and premiere elements are often bundled at a substantial discount. i think i paid less than $65 for a recent combo pack. b&h student discount combo is $69 with free ship: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&sku=1077546&gclid=CjwKEAjwnKCrBRCm1YuPrtWW0QMSJAC-5UYkUlBqQjh3Q5yCNuH6_EZkBBjJPsCag6HpHsARzv7wMhoCEyTw_wcB&Q=&is=REG&A=details ymmv be well. rob Re: Best video editing tool for teenager ? - MrNoBody - 05-29-2015 buydig.com frequently has Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements 12 Bundle (prior version) for $30 w/ FS. I grabbed one a week or so ago; has no 'student' requirement. Unfortunately, no current offering. Re: Best video editing tool for teenager ? - sekker - 05-30-2015 I think the older iMovie would be my vote. Re: Best video editing tool for teenager ? - pqrst - 05-30-2015 Quicktime has some pretty good editing features. The pro version adds even more features and is $29. With a look. My 3 cents. |
