MS Word "Safe Mode" in Windows-Any equivalent in OS X? - anonymouse1 - 05-30-2015

Got a hinky problem that safe mode in Word in Windows solves, but is hanging me up in my MAc.

I'm not talking about OS X safe mode, FYI.

Thanks.

Try opening and saving the document in OpenOffice.

Try saving the file as an ".rtf" on the Windows side and use MS Word file menu to open it on the Mac side (don't double-click; launch Word first)...

Safe mode doesn't solve the problem. It temporarily circumvents the problem.

As others have suggested, exporting the troublesome document to another format usually will provide you with a working copy of the problem-document that will open/save normally.

However, I suggest saving as an Office 97-type .doc file from the PC rather than .rtf, etc. as this will create a new "clean" document whie preserving your formatting.

Thanks, all. I'll try those.

The problem is that the document is HUGE--text only, 15 MB.

Text only, well, save it on the Winblows machine as a PDF, then open it in Wierd for the Mac.

That the file is huge might be your first problem. I remember trying to open some 8 MB files years ago and it would seem to hang for 4 minutes until the entire file was read. Consider breaking it up first, then import the parts, and save it in your default Mac format.
