iPhone charge sync cables rip at iPhone end - Microman - 05-30-2015

Does anyone else have problems with their iPhone Charge Sync Cables from Apple?

I looked down in car to hook up the charge cable and the rubber plastic around the end just before the iphone plugs in, is torn apart again.

Why does this happen. Apple has replaced them in the past, but I cant be the only person that has this problem, or is there a solution?

edit: I found this, its a no brainer..... and it doesnt take 6 years sitting in a car

this is normal if the cable sits 6 years in the car in hot weather

Get a licensed/certified braided cord.

Micro,

The cables from Apple suck in general. Doesn't matter if you use them at home, in the office or in a car. Sooner rather than later, the cable will get fouled up. I'm slowly switching over to cords like the ones On recommended.

I also like these cables quite a bit:

I like the versatility since I have devices that use Lightning connectors and USB Micro connectors. No problems at all so far. Especially handy for syncing since one cable handles all the devices. I'm using several of them with my IPhone in its Otterbox ION Intelligence case and with my iPad Mini 2 Retina at home and at my office.

Or the braided cables from our wonderful Overlords. My son is particularly hard on cables and he hasn't managed to trash a Newer Tech one in almost a year.

Go with a MagSafe cable. Oh, wait…

I LOVE braided cables.

They remind me of all the old appliances we had as a kid- iron, waffle iron, frying pan.

I have one from some KickStarter company. I had no idea Amazon or our OLs had them to. I'm going to order a couple.

By the by, the only Apple cables that have been a problem are the old PowerBook adapters (PB end) and a newer MagSafe MacBook adapter (middle of the cable).

I go through several iPhone 4 cables a year, and to make matters worse, the cheap ones charge so slowly it is not worth buying them and the Apple ones fall apart just as quickly....

Maybe I will try one of these braided cables...

OWC - 5 year warranty on braided cables.
Amazon/Apple "branded" cables 1- year
Monoprice - "lifetime" warranty, I replaced a couple of 6 footers last month. Monoprice paid for return shipping and for free replacements.

A return / replacement policy is only as good as the company behind it. With that said, I will stick with OWC and Monoprice cables.

Edit: some OWC braided cables are on sale right now.
