zip files all end up as setup.exe? - MacManMaz - 09-03-2006 Ok, downloaded a .zip file and a .rar file. When I open them with stuffit expander - tried both the latest versions. But everything opens as the file "setup.exe" What gives? Re: zip files all end up as setup.exe? - Racer X - 09-03-2006 maybe they are not what you thought they are? Re: zip files all end up as setup.exe? - MacManMaz - 09-03-2006 perhaps of a malevolent nature, eh? Those sneaky b strds. Glad i"m on a mac. Re: zip files all end up as setup.exe? - wowzer - 09-03-2006 Why dont you try them on a windoze box... but make sure that your anti-virus software is up and running. ;-) If you were expecting a video, photo, or music, you ought to seriously consider that the file is a virus/trojan horse. Setup.exe files are for windows only, yes? Re: zip files all end up as setup.exe? - chas_m - 09-03-2006 Dude, how many times do I have to tell you ... just go RENT the pr0n. You know it's genuine AND you return it when you're done with it, so no embarassing slip-ups when the pastor drops by for tea. ![]() Re: zip files all end up as setup.exe? - MacManMaz - 09-03-2006 That's not what it was... I said zip and rar files. But I can understand how you would make that assumption. Re: zip files all end up as setup.exe? - Racer X - 09-03-2006 no, never ever, not once in the history of the internet, has anyone ever taken a, say, .avi file, and zipped it, and posted it? Never ever happened with a .rar file either? We must be communicating across the bounds of space from another dimension, because where I come from, that happens tens of millions of times a day. It is the single most commonly used way of getting id10ts to infect their own machines, btw, by telling you "Oh, this is a cool video, just uncompress and click on it", and inside the .rar file is a nasty virus. In case you are ignorant, a .rar or .zip file uses a compression scheme, and puts the file in a new "wrapper". and that wrapper is named xxx.zip or xxx.rar. Just because you are at a backyard BBQ and someone hands you a hamburger bun, don't assume it has ground meat in it baceuse he said so. Some sneaky bastige could still have stuck a flattened peach in it. If you are on a mac, try RAR Expander. It does a far better job, and returns far less errors, and damages far less files than Stuffit Expander. |
