Sorry.. your Zune DRM Content is officially dead - cbelt3 - 11-16-2015

http://www.networkworld.com/article/3005309/microsoft-subnet/microsoft-kills-off-zune-music-service.html

"You will no longer be able to stream or download content to your device from the Zune music service. However, Zune devices will still function as music players and any MP3 content that you own on the Zune device will remain there. You’ll also be able to transfer music to and from your Zune player.

Note Content that was purchased with DRM may not play if the license can’t be renewed. "

Cbelt,

That's annoying. It's also why I'm not a fan of buying DRM protected content from Apple, Amazon and/or any other company. I do my best to convert the content to a non-protected format. That way, issues like this won't affect my purchases.

Robert

I'm actually a little surprised that it was still alive...

And, like Robert, I do my best to only get (or convert to) non-DRM versions as soon as possible. Don't care who the provider is.

The last Zune was great hardware. I came very close to getting one. I would have never fallen for the DRM trap. It's why I never even came close to considering an iPod until Apple dropped their DRM.

I've never understood this stand against the iPod...
Right from the very first iPod, you could load 100% DRM free purebred user-owned files to the iPod. And yet, we STILL, 12 years on, have people bitching about this mythology about how "you can't use an iPod without getting the music from Apple"...

I never said a user couldn't load their own ripped music.

So, because Apple owns a music service that does DRM, you refused to buy an iPod that has no DRM, because Apple sellls DRM'ed music totally separate and unrelated to the iPod?

Yeah.. makes good sense. Wink

Even if you did buy music from iTunes, there were ways to remove the DRM.
